Taking pictures of food - 5 helpful tips

It has been quite popular for some years now to take pictures of food using a smartphone. With many smartphones good photos are possible, which can be posted on social media channels like Facebook , Pinterest or Google+ in an instant. Here are 5 helpful tips that will help you achieve great results if you want to take pictures with your mobile phone.

1.Take pictures of food - the optimal light

As you know, lighting conditions are crucial when taking pictures. Use as much as possible a single source of light and try not to integrate all others into the picture. The food should not be directly under an electric light dispenser. If you're in a dark restaurant, it's best to sit down with the dish in front of a natural light window. If you sit outside, try a shady spot that is close to direct sunlight.

2. Use apps

Most phones initially have relatively limited camera capabilities. To be able to choose from more options, you should use specialized apps. You will then have a wider range of functions, modes and filters. Recommended are ProCapture Free (Android) and Camera + * (iOS), which are impressive images possible.

3. The right perspective

It is best if you hold the camera at eye level or only slightly above the plate while taking pictures. This makes the perspective more exciting and closer to life, as if you simply positioned the smartphone horizontally above the court. In the latter variant, the dish is rather flat, so it hardly recognizes depth.

4. Balanced composition

Depicts only the elements that you really want to photograph. Like to position other things next to the dish, such as your cutlery or a wine glass. But the food should be the focus. Also pay attention to the right background. Avoid those that distract from or come too close to the essential. If you crop the picture so that you do not see the entire plate, for example, you can add more suspense to the photo.

5. Edit pictures

Programs that allow you to edit images open up an infinite range of possibilities. Also for smartphones there are very nice tools with which you can edit your works directly via smartphone. Recommended is the Google software Snapseed for Android and iOS. Good alternatives are PicsArt-Photo Studio for Android and Adobe Photoshop Express for iPhone and iPad.
