Gilgit-style Yak Meat Curry Recipe

Ingredients Yak Meat Curry Recipe:

  • 500g yak meat, cut into cubes
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin, coriander and fennel seeds and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the onions and green chilies and cook until the onions are translucent, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the minced garlic and ginger paste, and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the yak meat and cook until it is browned on all sides.
  5. Add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and salt to taste. Mix well.
  6. Add 1 cup of water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and let it simmer for 45 minutes or until the yak meat is tender.
  7. Once the meat is tender, garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve with hot naan or rice.
